Tom hasn’t felt this good all his adult life, and it’s all thanks to his 10 week transformation at Ultimate Performance.

Before he started his transformation, he had suffered from poor posture and a torn Achilles tendon.

He says the improvement to his posture has been an invaluable part of his transformation, and that the drive of his trainer in the gym gave him the team spirit and accountability he’d lost after his injury.

What were your expectations going into the programme and what were your motivations?

“My expectations were that I’d likely drop BF but how much was possible in such a short time I was unsure of. I also wanted to learn a lot more about the food side of things, as well as get my form spot on.

My main motivation came from working out for years but always thinking I was missing out on that last few pieces of the jigsaw puzzle to get to where I wanted to be. I needed to try something that would bring it all together and help get me focused.”

Can you tell me how you were feeling both physically and mentally before starting with UP?

“I was coming off a hectic 3 week holiday in Ireland and the UK, so wasn’t feeling the best as I’d over indulged a bit.

Physically I was out of shape and generally drained. So I wasn’t in a positive, confident state of mind.”

What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started your transformation with UP?

“Monday to Friday my diet was pretty good, I’d train on average 5 days a week and generally eat fairly clean but tended to let that slip at the weekends. The weekend, I’d eat out a lot more and have a boozy night out here or there which looking back now pretty much undid all the effort I’d put in during the week.”

How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started your transformation with UP?

“I was determined to give it 100% and not to reach the end of the 12 weeks with any regrets, so I cut out all alcohol, junk food and followed the macros provided by Tim (my trainer) exactly.”

After 2-3 weeks I’d found a good rhythm and when I started to see the results it kept me motivated to keep going.

“I still went out with my girlfriend and friends but enjoyed just having water knowing that I would waking up the following morning fresh and full of energy for the day ahead.”

What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy inside and outside the gym?

I have far more energy, I’m sleeping better than ever and it’s the best I‘ve felt since I was a kid.

“This all adds up to a major boost in self-confidence. The feeling is addictive and not something I never want to lose.”

What were your results like after your transformation?

“The results were unbelievable and far exceeded my expectations. It’s been a target I’ve wanted to achieve for years but could never get there and had almost given up. Not only did I reach my goals but I exceed them.”

An added unexpected bonus is the improvement I’ve seen in my posture, I’ve never had great posture and always blamed it on bad genes.

“I didn’t think it was something I was likely making worse through my previous workout routine. The improvement I’ve noticed in the last 12 weeks has been massive, my shoulders are not as rounded and my head position is not sitting as far forward, while not perfect it is a vast improvement. This alone has made my decision to train with UP worth it.”

What were the most important things you learned during your journey and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation?

“I’ve learned so much, especially the importance of correct form and tempo. Good food choices are also vital for a good transformation and that I don’t need to be in the gym for hours on end to get great results.”

What really helped me during my transformation is the support and accountability provided by my trainer.

“I played a lot of team sports up until I tore my Achilles tendon in my mid-twenties, after that injury I stopped playing and started going to the gym. Going from a team environment to very much an individual one I didn’t realise how much I needed that drive provided by a trainer.

I thought I was pushing myself before but it wasn’t half as intense as my training sessions with my trainer. The team like support helped keep me accountable away from the UP gym too and ensured I stayed to the plan.”

How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?

“I didn’t think it was possible, now that I know for myself that it can be done it has me motivated to continue and make further improvements, I’ve leaned down so now it’s time to add some lean mass (no pressure UP).”

The feeling of achievement after a great workout and the knock-on benefits to all round health is an addictive thing and I feel like I can incorporate all this into a more balanced lifestyle going forward.

Would you recommend UP and why?

I have no hesitation recommending UP to anyone, be it someone who is experienced in the gym or someone who isn’t. Both will gain valuable knowledge along the journey and with 100% effort will achieve outstanding results.
